River Valley Primary School (PS) is an Independent Public School (IPS) serving the community of Burekup. Established in 1999 from the amalgamation of Roelands Primary School (est. 1903) and Burekup Primary School (est. 1913), we maintain our rural roots and a strong sense of community. Located near the Ferguson Valley along the South West Highway, our school offers a unique rural setting in the urban Bunbury area.
We are committed to achieving year-on-year growth for every student through an individualised case management approach. Multi-age classrooms provide frequent opportunities for students to engage with peers across year levels. Our Positive Behaviour Support strategy fosters positive learning environments, and our school values—Resilience, Responsibility, and Respect (3R’s)—reflect our commitment to ambitious, responsible, and caring learners.

The Role
We are looking for motivated, passionate educators with exceptional interpersonal skills. At River Valley PS, we believe students learn best when they:
feel safe, valued, and respected are challenged, engaged, and accountable for their learning have positive relationships with their teachers and school are provided with opportunities to succeed
In our early years, we use a balanced pedagogy of explicit teaching and play-based learning. At River Valley PS, we believe play-based learning provides children with opportunities to actively and imaginatively engage with people, objects, and their environment. It promotes holistic development—physical, social, emotional, cognitive, and creative—and supports a broad range of literacy and numeracy and self-regulation skills. Through play, young learners explore and apply knowledge both individually and as part of a group, fostering curiosity, creativity, independence, and a love of learning.
We are seeking teachers who ideally display excellence in teaching and learning, with an expert understanding of evidence-based practices across all curriculum areas. Successful applicants will nurture calm, orderly, and predictable classroom environments, guided by trauma-informed practices and our Positive Behaviour Support framework.
Ideal applicants will be innovative and systematic in delivering Tier 2 interventions in priority areas such as literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional learning, and understand how to use data to inform teaching decisions. Knowledge of Explicit Direct Instruction (EDI), lesson design, engagement strategies, daily reviews, and effective feedback is highly desirable.
River Valley PS has collaborative team structures, allowing staff to explore areas of interest that support students to achieve their educational goals. Teachers in our school are able to problem solve, support students to meet high expectations, and build positive relationships with families.
