Ports North is responsible for the development and management of port facilities vital to the economic growth of Cairns and regional centres in Far North Queensland. Ports North has extensive property, marina, tourism and cargo facilities in Cairns and across nine regional and remote ports.

About the role

Port Employees undertake various operational and maintenance activities to support operations and contribute to the upkeep and safety of port infrastructure, plant & equipment.

Reporting to the Plant & Maintenance Team Leader, you will be part of a small team undertaking general port duties including the operation of plant and equipment including marine plant.

You will need to display a high level of dependency and reliability. You will also be required to participate in an after hours "oncall" system. Opportunities also exist to provide relief to the Seaport Operations Team, which includes supporting the safe and efficient movement of vessels and security within the port.

Duties & Experience

You must hold a Coxswain Certificate, Radio Operator's Licence, and First Aid qualification. A Forklift Operator Certificate is also desirable. Strong computer literacy and experience in maintaining and repairing marine equipment and facilities are essential for this role.

Experience in towage, pilot transfer, or clamshell dredging is an advantage. You must also meet the requirements for a Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC).
