The Role

This role involves the application of marine platform systems experience and technical knowledge to a range of activities in support of Offshore Patrol Vessel delivery.

In this role, you will collaborate closely with other members of the Engineering and Technical Directorate, and perform a range of duties including:

  • Support the review of Contract deliverables related to marine platform systems.
  • Provide advice to Discipline Leads on matters regarding marine platform systems.
  • Identify and articulate risk; develop and implement solutions and mitigations.

This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement (DECA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. About our Team

The Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPV) Branch is delivering the Arafura class Patrol Boat to the Royal Australian Navy, under Project SEA1180 Phase 1. 

The Arafura class is an exciting and challenging project, with a high delivery tempo. 

The primary role of the OPV will be to undertake constabulary missions, maritime patrol and response duties to operate alongside Australian Border Force vessels, and other Australian Defence Force units and regional partners.

The Engineering and Technical Directorate within OPV Branch undertakes Project Engineering, Governance and Assurance activities in support of Capability Delivery.

  • Previous experience working within an Engineering Management system.
  • Possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail in all aspects of their work.
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively and effectively with a wide range of Defence and external stakeholders of diverse professional backgrounds.
  • Possess a sound working knowledge of Systems Engineering concepts & practices.

Eligibility

Security Clearance:

Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at “Negative Vetting Level 1”.

Mandatory Qualifications:

This engineering position requires a Bachelor of Engineering from an Australian institution, or a qualification gained elsewhere, that satisfies the requirements of the Washington Accord for recognition as a Professional Engineer.
