In-Situ Machining Manager &
Experienced Manual Machinists, Line Borers, In-situ Machinists to join our Team.

In-situ machining is truly a field for the Elite Tradesmen out there who are masters of everything mechanical and possess the ability to think on their feet! If this is you, we challenge you to apply and begin an exciting career with WES.

In-Situ machining is a niche service, and WES are the leaders in this field withing WA if not Australia, boasting a large range of bespoke equipment designed and manufactured inhouse, our services and capabilities go unmatched. We seek motivated individuals who think outside of the box and are keen to learn new skills and become a part of the team. We understand not many tradesmen have been exposed to this kind of work, so we are willing to train the right candidates.

The ideal candidate will be willing to learn and already have a good understanding of machining practices, mechanical fitting and basic welding.

As WES is a relatively smally company (45-50 employees) team members are highly valued and with our broad range of services individuals get the opportunity to carry out a diverse range of work which keeps the job interesting and provides individuals with opportunity to learn new and exciting things.    

Aside from work in our workshop there is opportunity to work onsite within the Perth Metro area at our local customers workshops, or at remote locations on site carrying out in-situ machining and mechanical fitting.

Machinist Responsibilities

  • Plan jobs and setup machines

  • Setup and operate a range of in-situ machining equipment

    • Portable 3 axis milling machines

    • Line boring machines

    • Radial milling machines

    • Flange facing machines  

    • Turbine blade and vane grinding machines

    • Drilling and taping

  • Carry out machining of components as per work pack detail, drawings and client's requirements.

  • Select required machines and tooling. 

  • Liaise with Supervisor in regard to machining processes and execution.

  • Machine tool assembly, maintenance, repair and commissioning  

  • Overseeing, guiding, and assisting Apprentices. 

  • Standardise and share own processes to drive personal efficiency and productivity with every opportunity.

  • Maintain a positive work culture in line with our company values.

  • Ensure compliance with all record keeping requirements and complete reports accordingly.

  • Maintain a clean safe working environment for all workers & visitors at all times, this includes identifying & reporting any hazards and safety issues via the reporting process.

Skills and experience

  • Relevant trade qualifications and experience as Mechanical Fitter/Machinist.

  • Read and interpret mechanical engineering drawings.

  • Experienced to determine the best setup and machining process

  • Able to work both unsupervised and as part of a team.

  • Demonstrate safe work practices.

  • Forklift licence (desirable but not essential)

  • Dogging/Rigging (desirable but not essential)

  • EWP licence (desirable but not essential)

  • Good mechanical aptitude and experience.

  • High attention to detail and quality. 

  • High work ethic and time management.

  • Live local (preferred but not essential) 

Manager Responsibilities

  • Manage the In-Situ Machining Team and Department

  • Liaise with clients and maintain good working relationship 

  • Review RFQ's and put together competitive quotes and tenders

  • Process jobs within the ERP system  

  • Plan upcoming works - schedule manpower and equipment

  • Lead the team both from the office and in the field

  • Maintain and manage in-situ machining equipment

  • Establish how jobs are going to be executed

  • Drive growth withing the sector of the business
