Law Student Paralegal

Stacks Law Firm

Casual

Date posted: January 17, 2026

Closes: Feb 16, 2026

Job Summary

This is an excellent opportunity for a law student to commence their legal career while developing core litigation and commercial law skills within a specialist insolvency litigation practice. You will work closely with experienced insolvency litigators and insolvency practitioners to investigate wrongdoing, recover hidden assets, and hold directors to account for the benefit of creditors, employees, and the community.

Why Stacks Davis Lawyers?

Stacks Davis Lawyers is a specialist litigation and insolvency firm with offices in Bowral (Southern Highlands) and Melbourne CBD. We act almost exclusively for liquidators and insolvency practitioners and enjoy working with commercially sophisticated clients.

We investigate corporate misconduct, trace assets, and pursue those who have avoided their obligations, including failing to pay creditors, employee entitlements, superannuation and taxes, or have deliberately hidden assets - achieving accountability and proper outcomes where misconduct has occurred.

If you enjoy uncovering the truth, building strong cases, and achieving outcomes that genuinely matter, this is a practice area you will find both challenging and deeply rewarding.

We offer the opportunity to work at a CBD-standard firm, handling sophisticated matters, while enjoying a genuine work-life balance and flexible working arrangements.

You will be part of a high-calibre, driven, and supportive team that values collaboration, mentoring, and professional growth.

As a small, specialist firm, we offer something many larger firms cannot:

  • Direct access to senior lawyers
  • Early exposure to complex, high-quality work
  • The opportunity to develop strong habits, judgement, and professional standards from the very beginning of your career

You will learn how skilled lawyers think, write, analyse evidence, and run matters, rather than being confined to administrative or purely support tasks.

About the Role

We are seeking a law student to join our insolvency litigation team on a casual basis (initially two days per week), working from our Bowral office, with flexibility around university commitments, with the opportunity to increase days and hours over time.

You will gain practical exposure across the full lifecycle of insolvency litigation, including:

  • Investigating the affairs of failed companies
  • Assisting with public examinations and evidence gathering
  • Asset tracing and recovery work
  • Supporting commercial and insolvency litigation in superior courts
  • Working closely with senior lawyers and litigation funders on complex matters

This is not a “back-office” role. You will be trusted with real work, meaningful responsibility, and early involvement in matters that are typically reserved for more senior lawyers in larger firms.

About You

This role will suit a law student who:

  • Is intellectually curious and enjoys complex problem-solving
  • Is confident with numbers and commercial concepts
  • Is self-motivated, organised, and eager to learn
  • Has strong written and analytical skills
  • Wants to develop excellent professional standards from the outset
  • Is keen to be challenged

Prior insolvency experience is not required — pride in your work, a sense of ownership, strong attention to detail and a proactive approach are what we value most.

If this role interests you, please submit your resume and cover letter to rharman@stacklaw.com.au.
