The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking an IT Coordinator to provide a critical role within Western Plains Correctional Centre.

 About the Business Unit

Western Plains Correctional Centre is a modern, maximum-security prison focussed on rehabilitation, housing up to 1248 people in custody. Western Plains features multi-purpose infrastructure which is adaptable to the evolving needs of Corrections Victoria and the people in our care. Modern amenities include medical wards, a cultural centre, and vocational training facilities.

Western Plains provides a holistic, multidisciplinary approach to individualised care which motivates, encourages and promotes reintegration into the community. Western Plains has advanced technology which improves security, streamlines operations and enhances connections for the people in our care.

 About the Role

This position sits within the Technology Services Team, which supports the prison and prison staff in areas such as Application Development & Support, Infrastructure Support, IT Asset Management and Communications devices support.

The Information Technology Coordinator is responsible for supporting staff and people is our care in use of the technology, hardware and applications support and assist in implementation projects at Western Plains. This role acts collaboratively within Prison's Operations Team and other internal and external stakeholders.

Given the nature of this position, being a direct contact with people in our care role within the facility, you will be required to work predominantly on-site. You will be required to work flexible hours including weekends and public holidays and attend to urgent work as required. Appropriate remuneration will be applied for the above in accordance with the Victorian Public Service Determination.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Lead a small team of IT officers.
  • Provide technical advice and assistance to Western Plains staff
  • Assist in developing and managing of local IT systems
  • Act as the administrator of infrastructure, including assisting in infrastructure upgrades, user and system requirement s and publishing information of the people in our care IT infrastructure.
  • Manage the implementation of upgrades and ongoing maintenance of people in our care computers and WIFI equipment to ensure compliance with DJCS policy.
  • Conduct regular audits of people in our care computers and other IT resources

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Practical knowledge of computer operations and experience in supporting Microsoft operating systems, telecommunications equipment and other ICT hardware
  • Experience in managing small team
  • Proven experience in delivering high standard of service to internal customers
  • Experience in Supporting Android and iOS mobile devices
  • Experience in IT hardware lifecycle management
  • Ability to re-prioritise and plan workload to ensure delivery with deadlines and timeframes in a dynamic work environment
  • High level of proficiency using the following suite of applications: Microsoft Windows 10, and Microsoft Office 365 Suite
  • Aptitude and willingness to learn new technologies

Qualifications/requirements

  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline, such as IT, is highly desirable
  • Developing code and implementation of IT related projects would be advantageous.
