NBMLHD Community Mental Health offers a range of specialised services for children, young people, families and older people, through our community-based services and health centres. Our multidisciplinary health professionals and case managers take a collaborative approach to mental health care by linking with their patients to work together and consult within an environment appropriate to the person's needs.

The Safeguards Team is an innovative new Child, Youth & Family Mental Health (CYF‑MH) service dedicated to delivering best‑practice care to children and adolescents aged 0–17 who are experiencing acute mental health distress. As a community‑based service, the team provides rapid, mobile and flexible responses to mental health crises, offering assertive outreach, coordinated care, and time‑limited therapeutic interventions that meet young people where they are in their homes, schools, communities, and hospital settings. Operating seven days a week with extended weekday hours, the Safeguards Team ensures timely, accessible and compassionate support through face‑to‑face, phone and telehealth appointments.

What you will bring to the role

  1. Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse/Midwife with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA) and current NSW Driver’s License and willingness to use same as required for the position.
  2. Minimum five years full time equivalent post registration experience and post graduate qualifications in field of practice, or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate by the Local Health District.
  3. Evidence of consistent demonstration of behaviours that reinforce the CORE Values of our organisation with all stakeholders including colleagues, direct reports, patients and consumers.
  4. Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills across a variety of mediums and knowledge of the practice development framework to clinical practice.
  5. Ability to apply clinical expertise in patient-centred consultancy and both the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary framework and the capacity to work independently.
  6. Demonstrated involvement in the development/change of clinical practice underpinned by evidence-based research.
  7. Demonstrated ability to contribute to strategic and clinical service planning.
  8. Proven skills in clinical teaching, the identification of education needs in the clinical area, and competency in the use of contemporary information systems.
