Where You’ll Be Working

This role is based within the Drug and Alcohol Clinical Services (DACS) sector, supporting the Opioid Treatment Program across Newcastle, Cessnock, and surrounding regions, with occasional travel to the Lower Mid-North Coast and New England North West areas. You’ll work closely with Nurse Unit Managers (NUM), Case Managers, Community Pharmacists, Aboriginal communities, and private prescribers to ensure coordinated, high-quality care.

About The Role

As the Community Consultant Liaison, you’ll act as a bridge between multiple stakeholders, using your clinical expertise to support and advise colleagues, pharmacists, and community partners. Your day-to-day work will involve providing guidance, sharing knowledge of Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) processes, and facilitating communication across teams to ensure cohesive service delivery.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in both independent and collaborative settings and is motivated by making a tangible difference in the delivery of AOD services. You’ll typically work Monday to Friday, with some travel required within your regions of responsibility. You won’t be alone in this role! You will be supported by the DACS Executive, Medical Director, District Manager, Pharmacist Nurse Manager, and Opioid Treatment Program NUMs. You’ll receive a structured orientation and ongoing professional development opportunities.

About You

You are a highly organised, independent, and communicative Registered Nurse with expertise in Alcohol and Other Drug services. You bring:

Strong clinical knowledge of AOD processes and ability to share this with colleagues and community stakeholdersExcellent interpersonal and communication skills to educate, consult, and liaise effectivelyThe ability to work autonomously while contributing to a collaborative, team-focused environmentA proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement

Essential Requirements

Current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse (Division 1)Relevant post-registration qualifications and at least 3 years demonstrated experience in Alcohol and Other Drug services or related clinical areasEligible to drive in NSW with a current unrestricted NSW driivers license.
