We’re on the lookout for a Senior Estimator to strengthen our Geelong Estimating Team and help shape the success of upcoming projects from day one. You’ll lead tenders and estimating activity across complex structural steel and construction packages—bringing sharp commercial judgement, strong leadership, and the confidence to drive winning outcomes.

About the Role

As a Senior Estimator, you’ll play a key strategic role in the early stages of our projects. You’ll lead the preparation of accurate tenders and cost estimates, working closely with our estimating and project teams to assess risks, secure competitive pricing, and deliver solutions aligned with Hanlon’s commitment to excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of estimators, driving technical excellence and collaboration

• Prepare detailed and competitive tenders and estimates for structural steel and construction projects

• Interpret and review structural steel documentation, drawings and project specifications

• Complete take-offs, measure and price tender packages (including preliminaries)

• Scope and issue work packages and coordinate subcontractor and supplier quotes

• Conduct cost analysis, risk assessments and value engineering exercises

• Participate in tender reviews, bid presentations and pre-contract negotiations

• Collaborate with clients, engineers, designers and internal project teams to ensure clear and timely communication

• Maintain and improve estimating systems, databases and documentation in line with ISO 9001, 45001 and 14001

• Provide detailed project handovers including budgets and commercial insights

• Champion continuous improvement and support Hanlon’s strong safety and quality culture

What We’re Looking For

To be successful in this role, you’ll ideally have:

• A tertiary qualification in Engineering, Quantity Surveying or Construction Management, or a relevant trade background with 10+ years’ industry experience

• Proven experience in structural steel estimating and/or commercial construction projects

• Proficiency with estimating software and take-off tools (e.g. Bluebeam, CostX, Buildsoft)

• Strong analytical thinking, negotiation skills, and clear communication

• Confidence interpreting complex technical drawings, reports and specifications

• Leadership capability and sound commercial judgement

• A proactive and organised approach, with the ability to meet deadlines

• Professional presentation and a solutions-focused team mindset
