We’re on the lookout for a skilled EL1 Specialist Advisor to join our client for a full time temporary contract running until December 2026. This role is crucial for leading the development and implementation of a modern employee suitability framework, helping ensure workforce safety and integrity across the organisation. It’s perfect for someone with experience in personnel security, vetting, and risk assessment, who thrives working on complex issues and enjoys collaborating with diverse teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, consultation, and rollout of a cutting-edge employee suitability framework aligned with security policies.
- Provide expert advice on complex vetting and suitability cases, supporting consistent and well-informed decision-making.
- Strengthen pre-employment screening processes, ensuring they are fit-for-purpose and integrated into recruitment workflows.
- Develop ongoing monitoring strategies to manage workforce integrity risks, with clear review triggers and assessment methods.
- Support governance activities by identifying positions with special security requirements and ensuring these are managed effectively.
- Refresh policies and procedures related to personnel security, ensuring clarity, accessibility, and alignment with best practices.
- Collaborate with internal teams like Cyber, Legal, Audit, and Risk, building strong relationships and delivering clear, high-quality advice for leadership.
- Lead complex workstreams, manage priorities and risks, and mentor team members to foster a culture of integrity and professionalism.
About You
- Proven experience applying protective security frameworks, especially within the APS or government sectors.
- Strong background in vetting, suitability assessments, or related personnel security roles.
- Ability to interpret and manage sensitive personal and security information with discretion.
- Skilled in developing structured risk assessment frameworks and decision-making tools.
- Excellent written communication skills, with a knack for preparing clear assessments, briefs, and reports.
- Leadership experience, including guiding teams or implementing reforms aimed at improving security and integrity.
- Comfortable engaging with stakeholders at all levels and presenting complex ideas clearly and confidently.
