Build Careers. Strengthen Communities.
Bawinanga Homelands Aboriginal Corporation (BHAC) is excited to be part of the new Remote Area Employment Services (RAES) - a transformative initiative by the Australian Government designed to create more tailored, community-driven employment pathways for remote communities.
As the central connection point for job seekers, employers, and host organisations across the region, this role focuses on creating meaningful employment pathways, developing local skills, and supporting projects that enrich community life.
BHAC is looking for a full-time Manager of Employment Services, based in Maningrida, NT. Reporting to the Executive team, you will lead the delivery of RAES across 30+ remote Aboriginal homelands, building a new team, embedding cultural safety, and shaping employment pathways driven by community voice.
More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
-
Leading and managing the rollout of RAES employment services across the West Arnhem region
-
Supervising a culturally diverse team of Employment Consultants and support staff
-
Coaching and supporting employees at varying levels of experience, including First Nations staff
-
Developing strong partnerships with employers, host organisations, and Traditional Owners
-
Embedding trauma-informed, person-centred approaches in program design and delivery
-
Overseeing compliance, reporting, budgeting, and operational performance
-
Supporting continuous improvement and innovation through local knowledge and data
-
Championing cultural safety, resilience, and client-first thinking across all service areas
Is This You?
To qualify, you’ll need at least 2 years of leadership experience in employment services, social programs, education, health, or community development. However, we also value lived experience, emotional intelligence, and cultural insight and encourage applicants who may not meet every criteria but align with our purpose and community focus.
Additionally, the following experience and skills will be highly regarded:
-
Background in case management, social work, community engagement, or related fields
-
Proven ability to lead diverse teams including Aboriginal employees and team members with different experience levels and English fluency
-
Experience working in remote settings, or demonstrated resilience in cross-cultural or isolated environments
-
Knowledge of government employment programs such as RAES, CDP or related
-
Understanding of trauma-informed and culturally responsive practices
As our ideal candidate, you will be values-driven, people-focused, and flexible. You’ll bring strong problem-solving skills, emotional maturity, and a collaborative mindset with the ability to navigate ambiguity, lead change, and maintain calm under pressure.
This is a leadership opportunity for someone who’s not just task-oriented, but community-led. Someone who leads with heart and walks alongside others.
The Beauty and Balance of Remote Life
Working in Maningrida isn’t like working in a metro centre and that’s what makes it powerful. Life here is meaningful, immersive, and deeply connected to the Country and culture. But it’s also remote. You’ll be away from big-city amenities, and at times, far from family and friends.
That’s why resilience and self-awareness are essential. Life in Maningrida offers a different kind of richness - one rooted in connection, culture, and clarity. Here, the days move with intention, and your work creates visible, lasting impact.
Instead of the usual noise and rush, you’ll find space to grow, meaningful relationships, and a strong sense of purpose. If you’re ready for a role that feels grounded and fulfilling, this is where it starts.
