The Role

An opportunity has become available for a Peer Worker (Identified Lived Experience - Cordyline) to join Gold Coast Health (GCH) where the focus of our 13 000-strong team is on providing world-class health care to people living in the Gold Coast, and northern New South Wales region of Australia.

You will

Provide individualised, one-to-one peer support, practical assistance, education, inspiration, and shared wisdom from a personal lived experience perspective
Mutually engage consumers in making self-determined positive changes towards recovery-oriented strengths, aspirations and goals
Work collaboratively with the clinical staff to support admission, care and discharge processes, and to complement existing services to assist consumers on their recovery journey
Support and facilitate the planning, delivery and evaluation of peer-led support groups, education programs and other activities for consumers

About you

To be successful in this position you will require:

While not mandatory, the following would be well regarded:
Experience working as a Peer Worker in a public mental health or alcohol and other drug service, the non-government sector, or community would be well regarded
A Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work, or being able to demonstrate you are are working towards obtaining these qualifications
Driver Licence
Evidence of vaccination, or be able to be vaccinated against and remain vaccinated against - Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis and Hepatitis B
Tuberculosis screening, to identify if the tuberculosis vaccination may be required
Declaration of serious discipline history must be disclosed
Criminal History Screening will be required for new employees (GCH will cover cost)

Permanent part time
Base salary ranging from $38.81 - $43.16 per hour

About Us

Cordyline is a twenty-two-bed unit on the campus of the Robina Hospital. It is a cluster of fully self-contained units surrounding a central courtyard with a group space, therapy rooms and a nursing block. The rooms are equipped with some facilities to support independent living including a bathroom, air conditioning and basic kitchenette, laundry, dining and lounge rooms. There is a mixture of one bedroom, two bedroom and four-bedroom units. This shared accommodation arrangement aligns with the current housing options on the Gold Coast, therefore provides a unique opportunity to develop social skills that will help prepare residents for potential living arrangements when they transition into the community.
