To deliver on this new and exciting work, we are seeking skilled trades individuals to undertake long-term, world-leading training in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, U.S.

This role will require travel to Hawaii, US in May 2026 for a duration of 20-27 months.

Responsibilities

In the role of QA/QC Inspector (Painting & Coating), your responsibilities are:

  • Inspect surface preparation and coating applications to ensure cleanliness, compliance, and adherence to specifications.
  • Verify primer and finish coats for correct materials, coverage, and conformance with technical work documents.
  • Conduct inspections on critical shipboard components, including sonar domes and mast fairings.
  • Complete all required QA documentation and verification following inspections.
  • Report discrepancies and communicate findings to supervisors.
  • Use specialized equipment and calibrated instruments to assess coating thickness, surface profile, and environmental conditions.

Eligibility Criteria

This role requires relocation to Hawaii, US in May 2026 and relocation to Perth, WA upon completion of training in Hawaii.

The successful applicant must also possess:

  • Australian Citizenship
  • An ability to obtain and maintain a NV1 defence clearance
  • Cert III in Surface Preparation and Coating (essential)
  • Experience in a QA/QC inspection method on painting and coating preservation
  • Experience in using specialised equipment for preservation inspection.
  • AMPP/NACE recognised training (desirable)

Additional Details

During deployment, you will receive on the job training combined with instructor led classroom training. This training program and work is carried out in accordance with company and US Navy processes and procedures.

At the completion of your deployment, you will return to Western Australia (WA) to carry out the planning, management, and in-water maintenance activities on the United States Navy Virginia Class Submarines. Repatriation to WA is non-negotiable, so please consider this when applying.

Please note: This is a Civilian role and recruitment processes will differ from those undertaken in Active Service Defence recruitment.
