Position Title: Finance Officer
Reports to: Business Manager
Employment Type: Part-time (0.6 FTE)

Position Purpose

The Finance Officer supports the Business Manager to ensure accurate monthly financial reporting, strong end-of-month (EOM) processes, sound reconciliations, and effective monitoring of cost centres. The role improves financial controls, supports audit readiness, and provides relief support across the finance function as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Business Manager with end-of-month (EOM) close, including preparation of reconciliations and supporting schedules.

  • Complete monthly BAS reconciliations, ensuring GST coding accuracy and reconciling BAS-related accounts.

  • Reconcile key balance sheet accounts in line with deadlines.

  • Monitor cost centre performance, identify anomalies, and assist with investigation and corrections.

  • Support budget tracking and provide clear summaries to assist management decision-making.

  • Analyse and clear entity and system-wide suspense accounts at least monthly, ensuring items are investigated, coded correctly, and resolved.

  • Maintain strong documentation and audit trails for all suspense account clearings.

  • Prepare recurring journals and other journals as required (including accruals, prepayments, corrections, allocations, and internal recharges).

  • Support the finance team to prepare financial records for audit, including reconciliations, working papers, evidence files, and responding to audit queries as directed.

  • Maintain compliance with internal finance policies, delegated authority, and required documentation standards.

  • Provide relief cover for School Finance Officers in the processing of accounts payable and payroll.

  • Support fee administration and debt management processes.

  • Provide responsive finance support to staff to enable smooth day-to-day school operations and contribute to positive learning outcomes for students through timely, accurate processing and advice

Essential Criteria:  

The following selection criteria are required to achieve the outcomes in the context of this position.  Applicants will need to provide evidence of their capacity to transfer their knowledge and skills achieving the outcomes of this position. 

1. Tertiary qualification in accounting.   

3. Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills.  

4. The skills required to maintain effective operational standards. Demonstrated conceptual and analytical skills. 

5. Excellent planning and organisation skills to ensure work is completed within deadlines. 

6. An understanding of and commitment to the ethos of Catholic education. 

8. NT Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card).   

Desirable Criteria:  

1. Not-for-profit experience. 

2. Experience on Technology One or other similar software.  

3. Experience with grant applications and supporting light marketing.

4. Experience with payroll.
