Other regional hospitals part of the HNELHD Network are Belmont, Maitland, Tamworth. Other peripheral sites our Unaccredited Trainees rotate to are Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour.

The Orthopaedic registrar is expected to participate and develop their clinical skills in the multidisciplinary assessment and management of patients admitted to hospital for treatment of Orthopaedic conditions, and participate in their outpatient follow-up care. In addition provide consultation, assessment and outpatient review.

This position is suitable for those in the process of working towards gaining a place on the Orthopaedic training program. The role is designed to encourage professional development as a registrar participating in both inpatient, outpatient and on-call clinical responsibilities.

What You'll Be Doing

The primary purpose of the role is to provide effective clinical management of orthopaedic patients, under appropriate supervision, whilst developing expertise in medical practice, in a complex clinical environment. The unaccredited trainee is the key person who works closely with all members of a multi-disciplinary team and deals with matters of an urgent or sensitive nature, whilst exercising discretion, sensitivity and maintaining confidentiality.

Decision making and supervision will be at the appropriate level according to the unaccredited trainee’s skills, knowledge and experience. They will be expected to adopt a progressively more independent approach to patient management according to their experience, under the guidance of and at the discretion of the appropriate Attending Medical Officer (AMO). All patients managed within the hospitals of the health service are under the direct care of a specialist medical practitioner. All decisions regarding a patient’s care are to be clearly communicated with the specialist responsible for that care.

MBBS or equivalent, current general registration with the Medical Board of Australia.Drivers licence in order to provide service between hospitals and out of hours.Minimum of 3 years post graduate experience at commencement of post, with minimum 1 year experience in Orthopaedics.Excellent communication (verbal and written) with patients, their families, medical and non-medical colleagues; Demonstrates ability to provide empathetic and expert clinical careAbility to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team as shown by diligence, punctuality, organisational/ record keeping, empathy, team work, time management and a professional manner, within a supervised complex clinical environment.Demonstrated commitment to the Orthopaedic Training Program with evidence of continuing professional development and self-education, and teaching undergraduate and postgraduates
