We’re seeking a highly skilled Youth Mental Health Initiative (YMHI) Clinical Nurse Consultant – Level 1 who is committed to delivering exceptional clinical care and driving positive outcomes for young people aged 12–24 engaged with headspace services. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact while shaping the future of youth mental health care. This position will work across Headspace Penrith and Headspace Hawkesbury Offices.

In this pivotal role, you will provide advanced clinical assessment, care coordination, and short‑term intervention for young people with complex mental health needs. You will bring expert nursing consultancy and leadership to enhance clinical practice, strengthen the capability of headspace clinicians, and support high‑quality, youth‑focused care. Your work will play a vital part in ensuring seamless navigation and continuity of care across CYF‑MH, headspace sites, and the broader mental health service system. Operating within a time‑limited, stepped model of care, you will help young people access the right support at the right time, fostering stability, recovery, and improved mental health outcomes.

What you will bring to the role

  1. Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse/Midwife with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA) and current NSW Driver's License and willingness to use same as required for the position.
  2. Minimum five years full time equivalent post registration experience and post graduate qualifications in Youth Mental Health, or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate. Demonstrated advanced skills in mental health assessment, care planning and evidence-based interventions for young people and their families.
  3. Evidence of consistent demonstration of behaviours that reinforce the CORE Values of our organisation with all stakeholders including colleagues, direct reports, patients and consumers.
  4. Demonstrated clinical leadership skills and an ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary framework with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in nursing/midwifery practice.
  5. Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills across a variety of mediums and knowledge of the practice development framework to clinical practice.
  6. Demonstrated involvement in the development/change of clinical practice underpinned by evidence based Research.
  7. Demonstrated ability to contribute to strategic and clinical service planning, particularly across integrated youth mental health models.
  8. Ability to apply clinical expertise in patient-centred consultancy, with the ability to work effectively both as a member of a multidisciplinary team and independently. Demonstrated ability to work with community stakeholders and partners to coordinator client centred care.
