Primary objective
Support the Director Media and Communications in providing strategic media and communications advice to NTFES executive and
staff, and manage a small team to deliver integrated communications, marketing, and media initiatives.

Context statement
The Media and Communications Unit provides advice and support in media relations, marketing, internal and digital
communications, stakeholder engagement, protocol and recognition matters, strategic communications and communications policy.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide strategic media and communications advice to NTFES executive leaders, senior management and other staff.
2. Manage internal communications, content development, marketing and digital channels in line with NTG and agency policies.
3. Deliver communications campaigns and strategies, media relations, public information, and marketing and engagement

activities that advance organisational goals.
4. Build and maintain strong relationships with diverse stakeholders across local and national networks.
5. Monitor media coverage and advise on responses and strategies, including participation in a 24/7 on-call roster.
6. Manage and support the communications team by providing professional development and fostering a positive workplace

culture.
7. Assist with developing and implementing media and communications policies to ensure consistent, high-quality standards

across NTFES communications.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated ability to apply strategic and analytical thinking to identify, assess, and resolve complex problems in alignment

with organisational goals.
2. Proven experience providing strategic advice to senior leaders on complex or sensitive media issues, including in fast-paced or

high-pressure contexts.
3. Demonstrated ability to develop, lead, and implement multi-channel communications strategies and public information

initiatives that strengthen reputation, prioritise community safety and trust, and advance organisational goals.
4. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex information into clear, persuasive

messages tailored to diverse audiences and platforms.
5. Strong leadership and mentoring skills, with the ability to guide and motivate a small team and maintain a positive and inclusive

workplace culture.
6. Highly developed interpersonal skills with the capacity to build strong, trusted relationships and influence positive outcomes

with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
7. Demonstrated capacity to manage competing priorities and deadlines with sound judgment and composure under pressure,

including participation in an on-call roster.

Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in journalism, communications, media or marketing, or equivalent senior-level experience.
2. Knowledge of Northern Territory emergency management arrangements.
3. Public information qualifications in the Australasian Inter-service Incident Management System.
