Glen Innes Severn Council is looking for a passionate, community‑minded facilitator to lead our weekly Aboriginal Supported Playgroup. What You’ll Do
As the Aboriginal Supported Playgroup Facilitator, you’ll deliver culturally safe, play‑based learning experiences for children aged 0–5 and their families. Your work will include:

Playgroup Delivery
  • Plan and facilitate weekly playgroup sessions grounded in culture, connection to Country, and the Early Years Learning Framework.
  • Create warm, inclusive spaces that reflect Aboriginal stories, art, language, and identity.

Family & Community Engagement
  • Build trusting, trauma‑informed relationships with families.
  • Support positive parent–child interactions and peer connections.

Cultural & Community Collaboration
  • Work closely with Elders, community organisations and leaders to ensure culturally grounded service delivery.
  • Support family voice, participation and co‑design.

Support & Referrals
  • Identify when families may need additional support and provide warm referrals to the right services.
  • Respond appropriately to any concerns relating to child safety or wellbeing.

Program Admin & Compliance
  • Maintain attendance, reporting and DEX data.
  • Ensure health, safety, first aid and WHS requirements are met.
Who We’re Looking For
Essential
  • Strong cultural knowledge and community connections, with the ability to engage Aboriginal families in a culturally safe way
  • Understanding of child development (0–5 years) and experience in delivering play‑based learning
  • Ability to build trusting, strengths‑based and trauma‑informed relationships
  • Confident communication and group facilitation skills
  • Ability to meet pre‑employment and Working with Children Check requirements
  • Class C Driver’s Licence

Desirable
  • Qualifications in Early Childhood Education, Community Services, Social Work or similar (Cert III or above)
  • Experience facilitating playgroups or early childhood/community programs
  • Knowledge of local Aboriginal services, networks, and referral pathways
  • Current First Aid
