The opportunity

Mandurah’s parks, reserves, and streetscape trees are woven through a remarkable coastal and estuarine landscape, shaping the way our community lives, moves, and connects with nature. Together, these tree assets are central to Mandurah’s identity—cooling streets, supporting biodiversity, and enhancing everyday wellbeing.

As the City’s Arborist, you will make a meaningful contribution to the long-term health, growth, and resilience of Mandurah’s urban forest. Working collaboratively across the organisation, you will support the development and delivery of strategies that align with the City’s vision and community aspirations for tree planting, protection, and restoration. You will provide specialist arboricultural advice, along with training and mentoring, to embed best practice in tree planting, establishment, maintenance, and risk management.

To be successful in the Arborist position, you will need:

  • Diploma in Arboriculture (or demonstrated equivalent)
  • Eligible for, and willing to obtain, membership to Arboriculture Australia or International Society of Arboriculture
  • Qualified in QTRA, VALID or ISA-TRAQ
  • Construction White Card
  • Current unrestricted national driver’s licence
  • Minimum 5 years of demonstrated experience in:
    • project supervision and contract management of arboriculture works/tree surgery within the public realm
    • interpersonal and communication skills with experience in providing technical briefs and reports to senior level stakeholders on tree management issues
    • tree value and valuation processes
    • implementation and monitoring of programs and systems relevant to quality tree management processes

Applications from candidates with the following experience and qualifications, and a willingness to undertake further study supported by the City, will also be considered to commence in the role of Tree Care Specialist (Level 6) and transition to the position of Arborist after successfully receiving a Diploma of Arboriculture:

  • Certificate III in Arboriculture (or demonstrated equivalent, such as Certificate III in Parks and Gardens, or Certificate III or IV in Horticulture)
  • Qualified in QTRA, VALID or ISA-TRAQ
  • Construction White Card
  • Current unrestricted national driver’s licence
  • Minimum 3 years of demonstrated experience in:
    • project supervision and contract management of arboriculture works/tree surgery within the public realm
    • interpersonal and communication skills with experience in providing technical briefs and reports to senior level stakeholders on tree management issues
    • tree value and valuation processes
