Conservation Officer

Council is seeking to appoint a permanent full time Conservation Officer to contribute to Council’s success.

  • Permanent Full Time, 9-day fortnight
  • Contribute to the enhancement of environmental outcomes for our region

About the Role

The purpose of this position is to provide effective and efficient advice, support, promotion, implementation and improvement for environment and conservation programs and initiatives to preserve and enhance natural assets managed by Council across the region. 

About You

  • Passionate about conservation, you will be required to investigate and provide advice and solutions on conservation and environmental matters relevant to Council and the region.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, stakeholder engagement and written and oral communication skills are essential to your success, in addition to your knowledge and application of contemporary and emerging management techniques.

You will bring:

  • Bachelor of Environmental Management, (or a related discipline), and/or equivalent demonstrated experience in environment and conservation programs and initiatives to perform the responsibilities of the position.
  • Knowledge of and experience in interpreting and applying relevant legislation, policy and local laws.
  • High level interpersonal and communication (verbal and written English) skills and experience liaising with customers, stakeholders and employees.
  • Ability to develop and implement operating procedures, management plans and to evaluate technical data.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
  • Proficient keyboard skills and experience using Microsoft Office Suite and operating corporate business systems.
  • Legally able to drive a motor vehicle in Queensland.

Eligibility & Pre-employment Checks

To be eligible for this position, the candidate must have applicable working rights.

This position requires immunisation against Hepatitis A/B, Tetanus and Lyssavirus.

Depending on the role requirements, you may need to complete various checks and assessments as part of the recruitment process. This could include reference checks, pre-employment medicals (including drug and alcohol testing), vaccinations, visa checks, licence verifications and psychometric testing.  

The commencement salary will depend on the successful applicant’s qualifications, experience and competencies, graduate progression may apply.
