We’re looking for a hands‑on, curious and driven Plant Engineer who’s ready to take the next step in their career within a fast‑paced manufacturing environment. If you enjoy solving problems, working with machinery, and being part of a team that gets things done safely and efficiently, this could be the perfect role for you.
About Us
Godfrey Hirst is the largest carpet manufacturer in Oceania, backed by more than 160 years of local manufacturing experience across Australia and New Zealand. Now part of Mohawk Industries, we lead the way in designing and producing high‑quality, sustainable and beautiful flooring for residential and commercial spaces.
Safety is central to everything we do. We’re committed to maintaining a workplace where people go home in the same condition they arrived—every single day.
What the Role Looks Like
This is not your typical desk job. You’ll work across our sites in Laverton, Truganina, North Geelong, Breakwater and South Geelong, supporting daily operations while also contributing to longer‑term engineering improvements.
You’ll be hands‑on with a wide range of machinery and equipment, playing a key role in ensuring our plant operates reliably, efficiently and safely. There’s plenty of opportunity to learn, grow and make a real impact.
In this role, you will:
-
Keep our plant running smoothly by coordinating maintenance, reliability and safety‑critical activities.
-
Lead the rollout of improved maintenance and engineering strategies.
-
Troubleshoot issues and support the team when unexpected problems arise.
-
Provide technical guidance to production and maintenance teams.
-
Identify, design and implement upgrades that enhance safety, efficiency and equipment performance.
-
Manage small‑to‑medium capital projects from concept creation through to completion.
-
Play an active role in strengthening safety culture through safe work practices and risk‑based decision making.
What We’re Looking For
You’ll need a degree in Mechanical Engineering, and ideally around 5 years of post-grad experience, preferably in a medium-heavy industry manufacturing environment. You should be comfortable using AutoCAD and have solid MS Office skills. If you’ve worked with CMMS (SAP) systems or managed industrial projects before, that’s a bonus.
Importantly, we’re after someone who:
-
Communicates clearly and works well with others.
-
Has strong mechanical aptitude and enjoys understanding how things work.
-
Pays attention to detail and takes pride in high standards—especially in safety.
-
Can manage competing priorities and adapt when things change.
-
Brings a positive, proactive approach to the team.
-
Demonstrates a strong commitment to safe work practices and risk awareness.
Why Join Us?
-
Be part of a supportive engineering and operations team that values continuous improvement and innovation.
-
Work on interesting and varied projects with opportunities to learn new skills.
-
Enjoy a competitive salary based on experience.
-
Make a meaningful contribution to safety, reliability and long‑term operational performance
