Primary objective
Under the supervision and direction of the nursing staff, the patient care assistant will assist with patient care, ensure that
the clinical workplace is clean and safe, transport patients to and from dialysis and contribute to the efficient functioning of
the unit or department.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Assist nursing staff with direct and indirect patient care while preserving patient dignity, privacy, and confidentiality.
2. Provide patient support services to ensure an effective clinical service.
3. Undertake a range of duties to ensure a hygienic environment in accordance with Tennant Creek Hospital policy and

Australian Health Care Standards.
4. Perform patient and staff transport as required and provide courier duties to ensure the efficient functioning of the unit

or department.
5. Contribute as a supportive member of the multidisciplinary team.
6. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being

undertaken to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrate initiative, reliability, and punctuality.
2. Demonstrate proficiency in verbal and written communication and basic computer skills.
3. Awareness of multicultural issues and their impact on work practices in a cross-cultural working environment.
4. Demonstrated ability to work within a multidisciplinary and culturally diverse team environment.
5. Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision and maintain confidentiality.
6. Awareness of the importance of infection control and work health and safety measures.
7. Current Northern Territory drivers’ licence.
8. Physically fit to undertake the duties required for the position, such as transferring patients.

Desirable
1. Certificate III in Aged Care or Health Support Services or working toward same.
2. Work experience in a health or aged care facility, with experience in manual handling.
