MRT is expanding and we are seeking a technical Research & Development Specialist to help shape the future of Australia’s rapidly growing 4WD aftermarket accessories industry. 

This is a newly created, hands-on role suited to someone who thrives in product innovation, prototype development, and solving real-world vehicle challenges. You will play a critical role in the design, testing, and continuous improvement of MRT’s next generation of 4x4 and trade vehicle products. 

About the Role 

Reporting to the CEO, this role is responsible for taking product concepts through research, design, prototyping, testing, and market readiness. You will work closely with installation, manufacturing, sales, and product support teams, as well as external suppliers and industry partners. 

This position offers genuine influence. Your work will directly impact product performance, customer experience, and MRT’s competitive edge.

Key Responsibilities 

Product Research & Innovation 

  • Research new vehicle platforms, industry trends, and technologies 

  • Identify new product opportunities and improvements to existing designs 

Design, Prototyping & Testing 

  • Design and development of standard and custom products 

  • Install and test prototypes on vehicles, documenting outcomes and recommendations 

  • Develop installation guides, technical documentation, and specifications 

Technical Support & Continuous Improvement 

  • Work with Product Support and Installation teams to resolve technical issues 

  • Diagnose fitment, performance, and quality concerns 

  • Drive product improvements using customer and installer feedback 

About You 

You will bring: 

  • Qualifications in mechanical, electrical, or a related technical field 

  • Experience in R&D, product development, or automotive custom builds 

  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving capability 

  • Hands-on experience with prototyping, testing, and vehicle installations 

  • Familiarity with engineering tools, software, and manufacturing processes 

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally 

  • A genuine passion for the 4WD, trade vehicle, or aftermarket accessories industry
