About The College

Tagai State College is a unique educational institution that spans 16 Primary campuses, one Secondary campus, and a TAFE campus located on Thursday Island. These campuses are spread across 48,000 square kilometres of ocean in the Torres Strait, serving a diverse and vibrant community. The College is dedicated to providing high-quality education and fostering opportunities for students from Kindergarten to Year 12.

About SchoolTech

Tagai State College's SchoolTech program is an innovative initiative funded through DYJESBT with approximately $2 million secured for 2024-2026 (3 years). The program is designed for Grade 11 and 12 students, enabling them to combine their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) studies with Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses and Structured Work Placement. SchoolTech focuses on preparing students for employment and ensuring a smooth transition from school to work. A key aspect of the program is building sustainable partnerships with employers, industry bodies, and TAFE Queensland to support student success.

Your Opportunity

As the Student Support Officer, you will play a vital role in supporting students and families within the SchoolTech program. Reporting to the Senior Project Officer, you will liaise with the wider community and promote the benefits of the program to improve outcomes for students and their families.

Your Responsibilities

Implement systems to effectively case manage students in the SchoolTech pathway and develop intervention strategies when necessary.Collect and maintain records of student progress in all VET courses, liaising with trainers to provide up-to-date information on achievement and outcomes.Provide student support during training, assessment, and VET blocks.Monitor student participation, behaviour, attendance, and wellbeing, and provide intervention when necessary, including managing VET block attendance and contacting families of at-risk students.Implement initiatives to improve engagement in VET and foster positive relationships with students, parents, community members, and elders.Liaise with families and conduct home visits to encourage school attendance and motivate students.Identify and address educational, social, emotional, or behavioural issues affecting students.Develop innovative strategies to build relationships among students, families, community members, and stakeholders to promote communication and resolve concerns.Update QCAA Student Management for students from Grade 10 to 12.
