Are you ready to make a real impact on Mackay’s civil infrastructure? We are seeking motivated and experienced Leading Hand Maintenance professionals to join our Civil Operations team.

As a Leading Hand Maintenance Officer operating out of our Sarina Depot, you will supervise a team each day to deliver scheduled maintenance and construction activities. You’ll apply your expertise to ensure all work meets high standards, while promoting a positive image of Council through excellent client service, efficient work practices, and the timely, high-quality completion of tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support a team delivering road, drainage, and other civil construction and maintenance activities.
  • Plan, organise, and coordinate staff and resources to ensure timely and high-quality completion of assigned tasks.
  • Perform hands-on construction and maintenance work as required.
  • Champion health and safety by leading training and promoting safe work practices in line with WH&S regulations.
  • Oversee the use, maintenance, and minor repair of small plant, vehicles, and equipment.
  • Manage traffic control at worksites to ensure safety for workers and the public.
  • Maintain accurate records and complete required paperwork promptly.
  • Provide excellent client service to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Mentor and train team members, sharing knowledge and supporting skills development.
  • Ensure all work complies with environmental legislation and best practice procedures.
  • Carry out additional duties as directed by the Supervisor.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Certificate III in Civil Construction or ability to obtain within two (2) years.
  • QLD “C” Class Drivers Licence or interstate equivalent.
  • Note: interstate licences must be transferred to QLD within three (3) months of commencement.
  • Current QLD Heavy Rigid Truck ‘HR’ Class Licence or interstate equivalent. Note: interstate licences must be transferred to QLD within three (3) months of commencement.
  • Current General Construction Safety ‘White’ Card.
  • Current Traffic Management Implementation (TMI) qualifications or ability to obtain within three (3) months.
  • Certificate of Competency to operate road construction plant and/or equipment such as roller, loader, backhoe, grader.
  • Sound ability to read, write and perform basic numerical calculations to a standard commensurate with the duties involved in the position.
  • Sound skills in oral and written communication including the ability to manage clients and key stakeholders.
  • Ability to maintain high level of quality assurance in all works performed.
  • Ability to read, interpret and understanding basic engineering design drawings and standard drawings.
  • Ability to provide high quality customer and client service.
  • Ability to adapt to changing work environments and/or conditions while maintaining to positive attitude and a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others and foster a team environment.
  • Competent operation of survey equipment including total station and interpreting survey data.

Special Requirements

Willingness and flexibility to work overtime outside normal hours, where required, to undertake assigned tasks.
