The Role

We are seeking an exceptional Chief Engineer to lead engineering operations across four of the most iconic luxury properties in the Blue Mountains.

Just 90 minutes from Sydney, our Blue Mountains cluster comprises of; Lilianfels Resort & Spa, Echoes Boutique Hotel & Restaurant, The Hydro Majestic Hotel, and Parklands Country Gardens & Lodges.

Based at Lilianfels Resort & Spa, this is a rare opportunity to join Salter Brothers Hospitality and oversee the maintenance, asset management, compliance and engineering standards for some of the region’s most historic and celebrated hotels. As Chief Engineer, you will report to the Regional General Manager and lead all engineering and property services across the cluster. This role requires a hands‑on leader with exceptional technical capability, strong compliance knowledge and the ability to manage heritage‑listed assets with care.

The role and key duties; 

  • Oversee the day‑to‑day operations of the Maintenance Department across the entire property cluster, maintaining a hands‑on leadership approach

  • Lead, inspire and develop a high‑performing team of maintenance professionals, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement

  • Create and manage an integrated repair, planned maintenance and installation plan covering all mechanical, electrical and hydraulic plant and equipment for each hotel

  • Coordinate all incoming and outgoing contractors, ensuring correct licensing, documentation and full WHS compliance before work commences

  • Develop and recommend strategies to optimise performance, reliability and efficiency of all engineering systems, and implement approved improvements across the cluster

  • Prepare monthly operational and financial reports, including analysis of expenditure against budget and identification of variances

  • Compile and present capital expenditure submissions for mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and infrastructure projects across all properties

  • Lead and mentor the maintenance team across four luxury hotels, ensuring consistent service standards and operational excellence

  • Implement and maintain preventive maintenance schedules for guest rooms, public spaces, grounds and plant equipment

  • Ensure compliance with WHS, fire safety systems, building codes and contractor licensing requirements, bringing all legal obligations and risks to the attention of the Regional General Manager

  • Provide on‑call support and technical expertise for urgent repairs and after‑hours emergencies to minimise downtime and service disruption

  • Manage and deliver capital works projects from planning through to execution, ensuring timely, cost‑effective and quality outcomes

  • Oversee budgeting processes, monthly reporting and capital expenditure planning to support long‑term asset protection and operational efficiency

Essential criteria required to be considered; 

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Chief Engineer or Maintenance Manager in a hotel or resort environment;

  • Trade qualification; electrical license preferred but not essential;

  • Strong knowledge of building compliance, WHS, fire systems and risk management;

  • Experience working with heritage or ageing buildings;

  • Proven experience in leading and developing small teams;

  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, reporting and capital works planning;

  • Hands‑on, solutions‑focused leadership style;

  • Ability to participate in an after‑hours on‑call rotation;

  • Valid driver’s license;

  • Residence within the Blue Mountains region or willingness to relocate.
