Provide outstanding leadership and strategic direction to the school of Nursing and Midwifery within the Faculty of Health at Charles Darwin University (CDU)
About the Position
The Dean of Nursing and Midwifery is a pivotal leadership role within the Faculty and the University, and a crucial appointment to ensure the success of the key priorities outlined in the University’s Strategic Plan.
Reporting directly to the PVC (Health) and as a key member of the Faculty’s Senior Executive Leadership Group, the Dean will provide vision and leadership in the strategic development of the Discipline(s). The Dean will be responsible for the academic and strategic leadership and resource management of the School, and for developing the profile both regionally and internationally.
Maximising the opportunities presented by the quality, diversity and collegiality of its staff, the Dean will foster an inclusive culture, and work co-operatively with the Faculty Executive and other senior members of the University to achieve operational and strategic priorities and contribute to the broader academic strategy of the University.
The Dean will be responsible for promoting growth and development in the Discipline’s student load and offerings. The role also includes a focus on research and engagement activities aligned to the University’s strategic priorities, industry and student cohorts.
About You
To be successful, you will require:
- A PhD or equivalent in a relevant discipline and a distinguished academic record in an area relevant to the portfolio.
- Outstanding leadership and interpersonal skills, including a record of achievement in creating and leading an effective team culture based on collective effort, high performance and engagement, and in managing organisational change.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and manage all operational aspects of a Discipline, including effective management of budgets and resources.
- A demonstrated capacity for astute strategic thinking and a proven record of accomplishment in leading and implementing academic and strategic initiatives that positively influence the performance of the organisation.
- Highly effective relationship building and negotiating skills, with proven ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships, both within the University and with relevant external stakeholders locally, nationally and internationally.
- A mature understanding of current and emerging issues and trends in the Australian tertiary education sector.
- A demonstrated commitment to academic excellence and continuous improvement.
- A demonstrated ability to problem-solve and think laterally and to anticipate trends and identify and develop opportunities.
