POSITION  

Maintenance and Horticultural Team Member 

ORGANISATIONAL RELATIONSHIP  

Reports to Operations manager 

EMPLOYMENT STATUS  

Full time.  Out of hours may be required. 

WORKPLACE HEALTH & SAFETY and POLICY & PROCEDURE RESPONSIBILITIES  

The employee shall comply with the Workplace Health & Safety Act, Regulations, Codes of Practice and AFL Cairns Policies and Procedures and shall comply with instructions given by his or her Manager and/or Supervisor in respect of the Health and Safety of themselves and the Health and Safety of other persons. 

The AFLC Policies and Procedures have been developed for the safety, protection and well-being of the individual employee and the company. 

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES OF THE POSITION  

The position will provide support in all areas of the Stadium, field and garden maintenance at Fretwell Park. 

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

The duties include but are not limited to; 

  • general keeping of areas clean and tidy.  

  • operation and minor maintenance of motorised equipment . May include machinery or equipment requiring the holding of specialised licences;  

  • assistance in the maintenance, renovation and reconstruction of playing surfaces, including mowing, rolling, top dressing, seeding, turfing and sprigging, fertilising , planting and maintenance of trees, pruning.  

  • application of fertilisers, fungicides, herbicides and insecticides.  

  • gardening duties including the planting and trimming of trees, sowing, planting and cutting of grass, and the watering of plants, gardens, trees, lawns and displays, weeding and watering;  

  • performing routine maintenance of turf, synthetic, artificial and other play surfaces;  

  • completion of basic records;  

  • assistance in the construction and installation of facilities and systems;  

  • clean machinery and inspects machinery after each use, reporting any problems to a management employee;  

  • maintenance and simple repair of vehicles and/or motor engines;  

  • repair and minor renovation work involving carpentry and/or painting and/or plumbing; 

  • training and supervision of employees of a lower grade, including apprentices.  

  • supervision and training of subordinate staff, including tradespersons;  

  • presentation of written and or verbal reports; 

  • general liaison with management; and AFL Cairns Facilities manager 

SELECTION CRITERIA         

Essential  

Qualifications: 

  • Current Drivers Licence 

Knowledge, Skills & Expertise: 

  • Experience in working in a greenkeeping or gardening environment 

  • Experience in working with motorized and electrical tools 

  • Experience in and understanding of workplace, health and safety rules and practices. 

Desirable  

Qualifications: 

  • LR or MR Queensland Drivers Licence 

  • Working with Children Suitability Card (Blue Card) or ability to obtain 

  • A trade qualification

Including but not exclusive to; 

  • Developing and maintaining high reputation of the AFL, AFL Cairns and South Cairns football club brand and football identity. 

  • Provide a highly professional and exceptional level of service delivery. 

  • Timely and accurate delivery of duties and responsibilities as outlined above. 

  • Work on your own with minimal supervision. 

  • Liaise with AFL Cairns Facility Manager
