Commercial Superintendent

The Commercial Superintendent provides hands-on commercial and financial leadership, supporting the Commercial Manager to deliver accurate, timely, and insightful financial outcomes. The role is responsible for budgeting, forecasting, cost control, financial reporting, governance compliance, and data-driven analysis across site operations. Acting as a key link between site teams, procurement, and logistics, the position drives strong financial discipline, continuous improvement in cost management and reporting, and supports informed operational decision-making to strengthen overall commercial performance and accountability.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Financial Performance & Cost Management

  • Assist in coordinating annual budgets, forecasts, life of mine financial plans, and capital expenditure estimates.
  • Track operational costs, inventory levels, cost drivers, and variances, highlighting risk areas and improvement opportunities.
  • Support cost saving initiatives and efficiency analysis across departments.

Financial Reporting & Data Analytics.

  • Produce accurate monthly and quarterly financial reports.
  • Compile dashboards covering KPIs, cost of production, inventory impacts, procurement activity, and performance metrics.
  • Support the Commercial Manager by providing detailed data insights and scenario analysis.

Capital Approval Process & CAPEX Reporting

  • Administer the capital approval workflow, ensuring proposals meet governance, financial justification, and documentation requirements.
  • Conduct preliminary financial analysis on capital requests, including ROI, payback, cost–benefit and alignment with operational plans.
  • Maintain an accurate register of approved capital projects, including status, committed spend, forecasts, and risks.
  • Prepare and distribute monthly capital spend reports, tracking budget vs actuals, variances, and project progress.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate CAPEX policies, approval limits, financial controls, and audit requirements.

Procurement, Contracts & Inventory Support (Financial Lens)

  • Support procurement and contract teams by providing cost analysis and financial evaluation for sourcing decisions.
  • Work with warehouse and logistics teams to assess financial impacts of inventory levels, storage efficiency, and stock movements to inform inventory reporting and balance sheet provisions.
  • Perform detailed analysis on inventory impacts and procurement activity Stakeholder Support & Collaboration
  • Act as the first point of contact for operational departments requiring commercial or financial support.
  • Liaise with site stakeholders to collect data, clarify cost drivers, and ensure consistency in financial reporting.
  • Provide insights and recommendations that support improved operational and financial outcomes.

About You:

  • Tertiary qualification in Finance, Accounting, Commerce, or Business.
  • CPA, CA, or equivalent professional certification (or working towards).
  • Proven experience in financial analysis, management accounting, reporting, or commercial support roles.
  • Strong understanding of cost control, financial governance, and operational finance environments.
  • Advanced Excel and data analysis skills, with experience using ERP systems highly regarded.
