About the Role

As a Trades Assistant at Ahrens in Goombungee, QLD, you will support the fabrication and production team with a variety of hands-on tasks. This includes assisting with steel component assembly, mechanical cutting, marking out, drilling, and punching, as well as positioning, aligning, and assembling components.

You will label and sort components, move materials safely with forklifts and overhead cranes (where licensed), and transfer fabricated items between departments. The role also involves applying touch-ups to steelwork, maintaining tools, equipment, and work areas, and supporting general site works.

Key Responsibilities

  • Follow work orders, production schedules, job instructions, and specifications
  • Mark out, cut, drill, and punch holes in steel components and assemblies as directed
  • Layout, position, align, and assemble components as instructed
  • Perform mechanical cutting of steel
  • Label and sort manufactured components and assemblies into product groups
  • Move steel within the workshop using overhead cranes and forklifts (where licensed and authorised)
  • Transfer fabricated components between production departments as instructed
  • Perform general maintenance and housekeeping of work areas, equipment, tools, and site facilities
  • Apply touch-up paint to fabricated steelwork
  • Safely and efficiently undertake other duties as directed by the Supervisor
  • Perform general site works as required
  • Undertake all other reasonable tasks within your skill and ability as directed

Skills and Experience

  • Valid Driver’s Licence
  • Forklift Licence (desirable)
  • Flexible approach with a cooperative team attitude
  • Willingness to undertake on-the-job training
  • Good communication skills
  • Genuine passion for manufacturing
  • Ability to take initiative
  • Willingness to work reasonable amounts of overtime as operationally required
