Kamira Alcohol and Other Drug Treatment Services Inc. provides residential treatment for women, pregnant women, and women with children from across NSW who are experiencing problematic alcohol and or other drug use.

About the Role

Kamira is seeking Out of Hours Support Workers to provide practical support and supervision to women and children outside of standard business hours.

This role includes:
• Overnight weekday shifts
• Day and overnight shifts on weekends and public holidays

We are recruiting for both Permanent Part-Time and Casual positions within the same role.

Permanent Part-Time:
Fixed shifts on a rotating four week roster (approx. 44 hours total), including overnight sleep shifts (eg. 4:30 pm Thursday to 8:30 am Friday) with an additional sleep allowance. Additional shifts may be available to cover leave. Evening, weekend, and public holiday penalty rates and loadings apply. Permanent part-time entitlements include paid annual leave, wellbeing leave, and birthday leave.

Casual:
Variable shifts on a rotating roster, with flexibility to pick up shifts as available. Casual staff do not receive leave entitlements.

Important clarification

This is not a disability support worker role.
Residents do not require personal care, behavioural disability support, or NDIS related assistance. This role focuses on maintaining safety, structure, and emotional containment within a residential AOD treatment environment.

This is also not a counselling or therapeutic role. The focus is on presence, consistency, boundaries, and safety. Out of Hours staff are supported by 24/7 on call clinical backup and work within clearly defined procedures.

Both Permanent and Casual staff are required to:
• Attend bi monthly Out of Hours team meetings and bi monthly all staff meetings
• Participate in compulsory training days

Key Responsibilities

• Provide practical support and supervision to residents outside business hours
• Promote a safe, calm, and structured environment for women and children
• Monitor the program environment and respond appropriately to issues or incidents
• Follow organisational procedures, including incident reporting and escalation
• Communicate clearly with the clinical team regarding overnight or weekend matters
• Complete accurate shift notes and documentation

About You

You are a calm, reliable, and compassionate worker who can operate independently while maintaining strong professional boundaries. You are confident supporting women impacted by complex trauma without stepping into counselling, therapy, or case management.

You bring:
• Strong situational awareness and the ability to remain grounded under pressure
• A trauma informed approach that prioritises safety, dignity, and respect
• Clear boundaries and a strong understanding of role limitations
• The ability to follow procedures and escalate concerns appropriately
• Warmth, consistency, and emotional maturity

Essential Criteria

• Minimum Certificate IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs, Community Services or a closely related field (completed)
• Australian citizen or permanent resident with the right to work in Australia
• Over 18 years of age
• Demonstrated understanding of women’s issues and the impacts of trauma
• Strong communication skills and the ability to engage empathically with vulnerable women
• Current Working with Children Check, or willingness to obtain
• Current National Police Check, or willingness to obtain
• Current Australian driver’s licence
• Fully vaccinated in line with health requirements

Desirable but Not Essential

• Experience in residential or community services settings
• Experience supporting people impacted by complex trauma
• Mental Health First Aid certification
