We’re looking for a trade-qualified Auto Electrician, Motor Mechanic, Coach Builder, or experienced Accessories Fitter (with strong 12-volt skills) to join our Darwin workshop team and keep our specialised emergency response vehicles road-ready.

This is not your average workshop role. You’ll work on purpose-built emergency vehicles, supporting frontline crews and helping keep Territorians safe—day and night.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This hands-on role is primarily focused on the fit-out, maintenance and modification of the St John NT ambulance and support vehicle fleet, including 4WDs and specialist emergency vehicles.

Working closely with our Fleet and Operations teams, you will ensure our vehicles are safe, compliant, reliable and ready to always respond.

Key Responsibilities include:

• Installation, modification and maintenance of 12-volt and electrical systems in ambulances and support vehicles
• Fit out and installation of emergency vehicle accessories, lighting, communications and medical equipment
• Mechanical servicing and repairs (where trade qualified) on fleet vehicles
• Fault finding, diagnostics and rectification of electrical and mechanical systems
• Maintaining accurate service and compliance records
• Ensuring all work meets safety, compliance and quality standards
• Contributing to an efficient, well-organised workshop environment

ABOUT YOU

We’re looking for someone who is practical, safety-focused and takes pride in high-quality workmanship.

You will bring:

• Trade qualification as an Auto Electrician, Motor Mechanic, Coach Builder, or
• significant experience as an Accessories Fitter with strong 12-volt installation skills
• Demonstrated experience working with vehicle electrical systems and accessories

• Experience with emergency vehicles, fleet vehicles or 4WD fit-outs (highly desirable)
• Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills
• A team-focused approach with a commitment to safety and compliance
• Current driver’s licence (HR licence desirable but not essential)WHAT WE OFFER
