Tamworth Regional Council is reshaping the way we deliver Development Assessment by introducing a new Major Projects Development Assessment Team, working alongside an enhanced Development Assessment Team.
The Major Projects Team will focus on large, complex, and strategically important applications, while the Development Assessment Team will accelerate well-designed, lower-risk proposals to support efficiency and growth across the region.
We are looking for motivated individuals who are passionate about helping to create the future Tamworth region who might fit into one of these newly established assessment teams.
You will have experience in planning and dealing with a range of customers including developers, consultants, and members of the public.
You will have the ability to collaborate with staff, state agencies and the development industry to deliver positive community, economic and environmental outcomes for those who already call the region home as well as those who will choose Tamworth region as their desired place to live, work and play, with our strategic vision Blueprint 100 setting your direction.
The Senior Development Assessment Planner – Major Projects (Grade 17 - $95,283.29 - $103,104.86 per annum plus superannuation)
This role is in our specialist, high-impact stream.
As part of the new Major Projects team, you will lead the assessment of complex, high-value and strategically significant development proposals that shape the long-term future of the region.
The Senior Development Assessment Planner Is Responsible For
Ensure timely progression and review of major project development applications through the assessment process.Undertake planning and regulatory function in accordance with the EPA Act and Local Government ActProvide support and mentorship to development assessment officers, such as students and cadets. Assist frontline Development Hub and Customer Service Officers in their responses to customer enquiries.Provide specialist information and advice to customers on major projects.Ensure accurate records are maintained in Council's corporate systems for all queries and complaints
The Development Assessment Planner (Grade 12 - 14: $75,038.00 - $88,541.82 per annum plus superannuation. Subject to qualifications and experience)
This role is our core assessment engine.
You will manage the day-to-day assessment of a diverse range of development applications, ensuring clear, consistent, and timely outcomes that keep development moving across the region.
The Development Assessment Planner Is Responsible For
Ensure timely progression and review of development applications through the assessment process.Undertake planning and regulatory functions in accordance with the EPA Act and Local Government ActOrganise resources and activities to meet deadlines and service standardsAddress all customer queries and complaints received in Council’s corporate systemsAssist frontline Development Hub and Customer Service Officers in their responses to customer enquiriesEnsure accurate records are maintained in Council's corporate systems for all queries and complaints
TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN EITHER ROLE YOU WILL NEED
Degree and Post Graduate Diploma OR 4 Year Degree in Planning or related disciplineDriver LicenceExperience in assessing a range of Development Applications using relevant legislationDemonstrated ability to work in a multi-disciplinary teamDemonstrated skillset in identifying work priorities and applying time management techniques; andWell-developed verbal and written communication skills.
Recent town planning graduates or students are welcome to apply as well as experienced planners.

Salary range: Grade 12 - 17 - $72,851.72- $103,104.86 per annum plus superannuation for a 35 hour work week plus competitive market allowances. Salary may be negotiated based on skills, experience and your value to our organisation.
Flexible working arrangements will be considered by mutual agreement and according to operational requirements.
