About The Role

Lead one of Council’s key finance streams - Assets & Financial Reporting - while providing high‑quality, generalist financial advice across the organisationOversee day‑to‑day operations and provide expert guidance to internal clients, ensuring strong financial governance and consistent service delivery.Supervise and mentor a dedicated finance team (of 4), fostering capability, performance, and collaborative working practicesDrive high‑level financial functions such as corporate reporting, statutory end‑of‑year accounts, asset register management.Maintain and improve critical financial systems, including Enterprise Resource Planning (TechnologyOne) applications, and asset/work management platforms.Deliver specialist financial advice across areas such as financial and asset reporting, taxes applicable to local government, accounting standards, and system administration.Ensure compliance with legislative, regulatory, and organisational requirements, including accurate record‑keeping through Council’s records management systems.

We Are Seeking

A qualified finance professional with a degree in Business, Accounting or Commerce.Someone with substantial experience in senior accounting, finance, rating, or related local government roles.Solid knowledge of statutory reporting, accounting standards, and asset accounting ideally in the public sector of for a large reporting entity.High proficiency in financial systems administration such as TechnologyOne, Assetic, MyData, and the ability to use business intelligence reporting tools.An inspiring leader with excellent communication skills and the ability to motivate teams to deliver high‑quality results.

This position is based in Murwillumbah and can be directed to work from any Council work site.
