Position: Brewer

Hemingway’s Brewing Company Ptd Ltd is an award winning Far North Queensland brewery and hospitality business. We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Brewer to join our small brewery team on a full-time basis. In this role you will work closely with our experienced Head Brewer. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about craft beer and hospitality who is looking to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic industry.

Main Duties and Tasks:

Day to day duties include but are not limited to;

  • Procuring and selecting quality ingredients;
  • Undertaking the brewing and fermentation process to the required recipe and formula;
  • Completing quality control checks and conducting laboratory tests during brewing and fermentation process;
  • Developing new beer varieties and examining samples to assess market suitability;
  • Establishing and maintaining standards for producing, packaging and marketing beer;
  • Maintaining and sterilising brewing tanks and equipment;
  • Supervising. co-ordinating, training and mentoring assistant brewers/brewery workers in all aspects of the brewing process, ensuring Workplace Health and Safety standards are understood and followed at all times;
  • Maintaining accurate records and reporting maintenance issues.

Responsibilities:

1. Assist the brewing & cellar team in producing high-quality craft beer.

2. Aid in the preparation and cleaning of cellar & brewing equipment, including brewhouse, fermenters/tanks, cool room, draught beer system and kegs.

3. Assist with the milling of grain and fermentation processes. ensuring accuracy and time keeping.

4. Monitor and record all critical brewing parameters.

5. Carry out quality control, sensory evaluations, gravity measurements and pH checks.

6. Participate in cellar work activities, transfer, carbonation, kegging and canning operations.

7. Perform general maintenance and cleaning of the brewery and cellar. ensuring a safe and sanitary work environment.

8. Assist with all levels of inventory management.

9. Be familiar with and follow all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and your team.

Requirements:

  • Relevant qualifications equivalent to an AQF Certificate Ill or higher.
  • At least 2 years of brewing experience Is essential for the role.
  • Knowledge of brewing principles and processes.
  • Passionate about craft beer with a strong interest brewing.
  • Ability to work well in a small team environment and follow instructions from the Head Brewer.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to perform repetitive tasks with accuracy.
  • Physically fit with the ability to lift heavy objects (up to 25 kg).
  • Valid QLD Driver License.

We are offering a generous salary package in the vicinity of $70,000 to $80,000 commensurate with experience.
