About the role
As the Technical Officer, you are integral to the success of V/Line’s Assets & Maintenance Group.
You will support Train Control and signalling field staff in undertaking investigation and analysis primarily relating to Signalling infrastructure performance. To assess system and communications for life cycles and project development of new technologies
Key Accountabilities include but are not limited to:
- Providing technical support for signalling systems, ICT, PIDS, PA systems, and telecommunications infrastructure.
- Diagnosing faults in electrical, communication, and data systems, and conducting detailed circuit and electronic logging analysis.
- Supporting maintenance and upgrade activities, including testing, commissioning, and documentation updates.
- Preparing technical reports, maintaining system data backups, and ensuring compliance with safety and maintenance standards.
- Assisting with inspections, system tests, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across the network.

To be considered for entry into the selection process for this role, applicants must meet the following 'key selection criteria' which forms part of our merit-based recruitment process:
- Certificate IV in Electrical Rail Signalling
- Cert IV in Telecommunications Engineering (highly desirable)
- Experience in signalling systems, train control, or SCADA systems
- Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve technical faults across IT, communications, and signalling infrastructure, with strong analytical and reporting skills
- Valid Driver’s Licence
- Track Safety Awareness Level 1
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently or as part of a team, and a commitment to safety and continuous improvement.
