About the Position
The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will contribute to a FEnEx CRC funded research program focused on evaluating the feasibility of using treated wastewater to support large-scale hydrogen production in the Northern Territory. The role involves advanced techno-economic modelling, environmental assessment, infrastructure analysis and the integration of circular-economy and renewable-energy considerations.Â
As the Postdoctoral Research Fellow, you will undertake scenario development, analyse multiple water sourcing and treatment pathways and develop integrated process flows to support evidence-based decision-making across government, industry and community stakeholders. You will work closely with CDU researchers, NT Government, industry partners and the FEnEx CRC network to deliver high-quality outputs, including peer-reviewed publications, industry reports, and stakeholder presentations.
This position is well suited to candidates with strong quantitative modelling skills who are interested in applying their expertise to real-world water, energy and infrastructure challenges in a policy-relevant context.
About You
To be successful, you will require:
Essential
- PhD in Engineering, or another closely related field.
- Demonstrated experience in process and/or energy system simulation using relevant modelling software.
- Proven skills in techno-economic modelling, including cost–benefit and sensitivity analysis.
- Experience with environmental impact modelling, particularly Life Cycle Assessment.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to work across multidisciplinary technical, environmental, and economic datasets.
- Demonstrated record of peer-reviewed publications in relevant fields.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present technical results to both specialist and non-specialist audiences.
Desirable
- Experience with GIS-based infrastructure mapping.
- Familiarity with the hydrogen energy sector, water treatment technologies, and circular economy principles.
- Industry engagement experience, especially with government or CRC projects.
- Commitment to the University’s values.
RemunerationÂ
Appointment to this role will be at HE Academic Level A. The base salary will be in the range of $76,604 - $114,924 per annum. The total remuneration package will be in the range of $89,626 - $134,461 per annum, including 17% superannuation.
