We are proud of our Railton site in Tasmania. It has been operating for over 100 years and is world renowned for its success within the cement industry. In 2026, we have one of the largest investments in its history, with a new alternative fuel handling and processing system being added to plant.
To continue this successful legacy and lead the production team through this exciting change, we are seeking a new Production Manager to join Railton team.
You will be responsible for leading an experienced and well-established team of operators, leaders and engineers who work collaboratively to deliver a reliable, quality product. We are looking for a proven people leader with cement manufacturing experience, and a strong consideration to safety, health, environment and community.
As Production Manager, your role will have many dimensions with responsibility for production of clinker and cement, raw materials movements, rail and trucking logistics, and shipping. With many moving parts, your ability to quickly solve problems, communicate with stakeholders and engage your team will all contribute to you making a difference in this exciting and demanding position.
Your OpportunityReporting to the Operations Manager (Plant Manager), the Production Manager role is part of the Railton leadership team and contributes to the strategic and operational outcomes for the integrated site. Some of your key responsibilities will be to:
Lead, develop and recruit the people resources of the Production teamsProvide visible safety, health and environmental leadership. Coordinate resources to identify and control risks and hazardsMaintain deep understanding of production fixed cost drivers and strategies to maximise the value propositionManage the production planning process to ensure product demand is met and critical maintenance windows are scheduled in partnership with the Maintenance teamDeliver the Alternative Fuels and Raw Materials program in liaison with Geocycle and provide leadership in exploring new opportunities and marketsActively participate in the development of strategic plans for the Railton siteLead the identification and implementation of key Capex projects to optimise production capability, reliability, and cost competitivenessFoster a high-performance, continuous improvement culture through critical thinking, innovation and targeted improvement initiatives across plant, process and peopleDevelop, manage and deliver production operating budgets and forecasts, including energy efficiency and optimisation programs
What You’ll Bring
Previous experience as a Production Manager in a cement manufacturing plantBachelors degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or similar, or equivalent experience in the cement manufacturing industryPrevious experience in a people leadership role within cement manufacturingDemonstrated knowledge of cement kiln process technologyOperational leadership experience in alternative fuel programs, optimising fuel substitution, compliance, and kiln performanceDemonstrated commitment and focus on safety and environmentAn aptitude for success in budget and cost managementA passion and talent for coaching, mentoring and developing a high performing teamWell-developed forward planning, analytical and strategic thinking skillsExceptional communication and interpersonal skills with proven experience engaging and influencing key stakeholdersPreference for experience in industrial relations and an understanding on enterprise agreements and negotiationsAbility and willingness to live within a commutable distance of the plant in Tasmania
