The role
ALS Geochemistry in Burnie is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to join a team committed to exceeding client expectations by delivering high-quality results on time.
The successful applicant will receive on-the-job training in the technical components and procedures of the role.
Dependent on successful applicant, this will be a full-time position, initially on a day shift (Monday to Friday, 6:00/7:00 am - 2:00/3:00 pm).
Once trained to work unsupervised, the role will transition to a rotating day and afternoon shift (Monday to Friday, 2:00 pm - 10:00 pm) as well as weekend work included every four weeks.
This is a residential role, and you must be residing or planning on relocating to or close to Burnie - TAS, with current Australian work rights to be considered.
The day to day
- Weigh, digest or fuse geological samples for analysis
- Analyse samples using AAS & XRF instrumentation
- Maintain accurate records and documentation
- Calibrate and maintain laboratory instrumentation and equipment as required
- Assess data quality to ensure it meets client reporting standards
- General housekeeping, including: cleaning laboratory equipment, glassware and area
- Perform sample preparation and manual handling may be required
The essentials
- A tertiary qualification in Chemistry or related field is desirable but not essential
- Experience in a high-production laboratory (highly regarded)
- A basic understanding of analytical chemistry concepts
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Strong commitment to safety and adherence to HSE guidelines
- An enquiring mind and willingness to learn
- Flexibility and ability to work effectively within a team environment
- Ability to multi-task and produce accurate results
- Excellent organisational, time management, and communication skills
- Ability to work the stated rosters continuously, including public holidays and weekends
