The Opportunity:

As the Learn to Swim Coordinator, you’ll manage the delivery of our Learn to Swim programs, supporting a team of instructors to provide safe, fun, and engaging lessons for children and adults of all ages and abilities.

You’ll oversee program scheduling, support staff development, and work closely with families, schools, and community groups to ensure positive experiences and strong community impact.

Importantly, the swim school is a key income driver in our profit-for-purpose model. This means you’ll not only shape quality programs but also use your business development skills to grow enrolments, build strong community partnerships, and contribute to the financial sustainability of the Y.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Program Leadership: overseeing daily lesson delivery, building term schedules, and making sure classes run smoothly and on time.
  • Team Development: recruiting, training, and mentoring a team of passionate swim instructors, ensuring they are motivated, well-prepared, and supported to deliver exceptional lessons.
  • Customer Engagement: being the point of contact for families and schools, listening to feedback, resolving issues, and creating positive, lasting relationships.
  • Business Development: growing the swim school through innovative marketing, community engagement, and building partnerships with schools and local organisations. You’ll be responsible for monitoring enrolments, driving participation, and ensuring strong financial outcomes.
  • Continuous Improvement: tracking student progress, monitoring program quality, and making data-driven improvements to keep the program relevant and in demand.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Certificate in AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety or equivalent (e.g. Swim Australia)
  • Current First Aid & CPR
  • AUSTSWIM Assessor or Teacher of Infant & Preschool Aquatics / Adults / Access & Inclusion (desirable)
  • Experience delivering and coordinating Learn to Swim programs
  • Demonstrated leadership and team supervision skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Knowledge of aquatic centre operations or recreation programs
  • Experience using swim school or booking systems (preferably Perfect Gym)
