Hiring CDP and kitchen positions - Institut Polaire Tasmania  

Institut Polaire is an award-winning restaurant and wine bar situated near the Hobart waterfront in Tasmania. 

We are seeking talented and motivated people join our team. 

We are hiring multiple positions with varying hours available depending on your skill set and qualifications. 

We offer flexibility around study for the right candidates who are looking to develop their careers.

To be successful in these roles you will have a passion for quality, seasonal produce and local fare. You have a hard working and positive personality; enjoy working in an open kitchen and sharing your passion with our team and guests. Our chefs are able to work autonomously and collaboratively as part of a team to fulfill and grow our vision. We have a progressive approach and enjoy exploring and developing technique. Experience or interest in French and Nordic food tradition and technique are highly regarded. Our ideal candidates will have an interest and willingness to work with handmade pasta, seafood, fermenting and curing as well as developing relationships with small  local growers and producers. We value creativity and are open to ideas from all members of the team.

Required skills and experience:

  • Formal culinary qualifications or undertaking study

  • Drive / passion to explore and learn

  • Hard working, creative and progressive

  • Team player with positive personality

  • Willingness to engage with local producers and food community

  • Engaged with authentic food movements and trends

  • High kitchen and food safety standards

  • Availability to work nights and weekends is essential

  • Must be able to work in Australia.

  • Previous experience in a quality restaurant will be highly regarded.

We offer both a six course seasonal set menu and a wine bar brasserie menu based around quality produce from ethical local growers, fishers and farmers. High level service and cool climate provenance are an integral part of our experience. We are also the home of Domaine Simha Wine and Süd Polaire Spirits. 

We are currently open from 4pm Thursday through to Sundays with an additional prep day from 9am on Wednesdays. 

We can offer work for 5 days per week for more senior roles or 2-3 days for those requiring flexibility around study. Hours and pay rates are negotiable commensurate with your experience and the award.
